Before the trip – Farewells, Interviews, Wishes and Fears

Before we departed all of those who were to be involved in the cycling trek across Canada were interviewed to find out about their preparations and their thoughts and feelings about the trip ahead.

Some highlights include:

Alistair said he was concerned about bears. He was excited about living out an old dream

Trevor was worried about whether he would make it over some of the bigger mountains with the bike ladened with saddle bags and said he was happy to join Annie in the wagon.

John was happy to have his son join him along the way and hoped that others would too. A number had already contacted him to let him know about their intentions to join the group for sections of the trail in their hometown province.

Brendan said he was proud his dad was taking on the challenge of the cycling trek across Canada and he looked forward to joining him from his home in Pemberton to Whistler and then from Kaloops to Banff. The only thing he was concerned about was the road traffic especially along some of the highways. Some roads are known to be more dangerous than others.

Lake Ainslie

Lake Ainslie on Cape Breton Island is one of the largest natural freshwater lake in Nova Scotia. The Southwest Margaree River starts at the lake and empties into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The lake is approximately 20 km long and averages 5 km in width.

A number of Bald Eagles nest around the lake.

The lake was named after George Robert Ainslie, the Lieutenant Governor of Cape Breton Island from 1816 to 1820, when Cape Breton became part of Nova Scotia.

Blissfield

The only Video clips found of Blissfield were of an Inn advertising acommodation and of a moderate local police chase and the booking of an unregistered dump truck downtown.

However we found a few fantastic clips of the stunning tourist locations along the coast line of New Brunswick, in particular the Bay of Fundy and Hopewell Rocks. The first clip sells you well on the idea of taking a trip to visit a number of these places when you head this way.

Montreal

Montreal is where John with spend some time as he is based there with Concordia University. After the journey ends in Saint John’s we will return to Montreal again before leaving Canada.
